Installing an Optional Management Module
The management module is an optional unit used to monitor the operating
status of the PowerBlade Switch and Media Converters Modules installed in
the chassis. The management module expasion slot is located on the back of
the PBC18 chassis. Refer to Figure 2 on page 2. The management module is
not required for normal network operations, but it is necessary if you want to
locally or remotely monitor and configure the modules and ports. The
management module is shipped with the AT-S31 management software pre-
installed.
The mangement module features a RS-232 terminal port with a DB-9
connector. The terminal port is used for local managment. The management
module also features a 10Base-T twisted pair port with an RJ-45 connector.
The twisted pair port is used for remote management. The RJ-45 has a
maximum operating distance of 100 meters (328 feet) and supports 10 Mbps
half-duplex operation.
The management module features Link, Power, and Status LEDs, as well as a
Reset button. See Figure 21. The LEDs and the Reset button are duplicated on
the front of the chassis for easy monitoring or to reset the management
module. Refer to the PowerBlade Chassis Installation Guide for additional
information on the features, functions, and cable specifications of the
management module. This guide can be downloaded for our web site.
